LAS
Running your newspaper’s legal advertising department can be time consuming and expensive. You’ll need at least one full-time staff member with expertise in the various notice types and legal requirements. And, there’s time spent responding to customer questions and requests.
By outsourcing your legal advertising department operations to LAS, you will only be responsible for publishing the notices and collecting the revenue.
We will manage all aspects of your legal advertising, including:







Receiving e-mails sent to an address using your newspaper’s domain. Customers always feel that they are dealing with a member of your newspaper’s staff.
Confirming ad requests with cost within one hour of receipt.
On production day, we will upload a single file containing all legal notices for that day/week’s edition for your graphic artist.
On the day of publication we will send your customer a run report confirming the notice published; or
If the notice has completed publication, we will generate an affidavit of publication and automatically e-mail it to your customer or file it with the county or court, depending on requirements.
We will generate invoices for your customers using your accounting system or ours. All checks/credit card payments go to you directly. We never collect or handle your money.

At the end of the month, we send you an invoice for a percentage—generally 20%-- of the total revenue. By working on a percentage basis, you never have to worry about spending more than you bring in. This is your only cost for having your legal advertising operations—no software fees, employee salaries, benefits, unemployment or workers’ comp taxes.

PubManager
For newspapers who want to keep their operations in-house, we offer our PubManager software.
PubManager was developed in 2005 by LAS president, Lisa Grace-Kellogg, also an adjudication attorney. It was developed for her company at the time, American Print Media, which operated newspapers in Southern California. It was initially not offered to outside newspapers because in every market where APM operated a newspaper, it dominated in legal advertising publication due to the efficiency and level of service offered to the customers. Other newspapers simply couldn’t compete.
In 2019, the software became available for use by other newspapers. However, we generally only offer the software to one newspaper per market.






The program is user-friendly and can be learned quickly by any of your staff. It allows the entire legal advertising process which would normally take hours, to be handled within minutes through the automation of many of the processes.
PubManager will calculate the cost of a notice based on your individual rates (and can calculate different rates by customer), schedule publication, send confirmations, create and upload a single file of each edition for your graphic artist, generate and automatically send affidavits of publication and invoice. If you’d like to also use the system for display and classifieds, go ahead!

If your newspaper has a contract with local government for publication of notices, we can offer your municipal customer a portal that would allow for notices to be placed by individual departments. It would also allow the municipal entity to place notices directly, download its invoices and affidavits of publication without needing to contact your newspaper.

Each license of PubManager includes a portal on your website which allows customers to place their own notices and pay online. This allows you to generate significant revenue without utilizing any staff time.

Some software companies will offer to license software to you for a monthly percentage in perpetuity. You’ll pay thousands of dollars and have nothing to show. With PubManager, you’ll pay $300 per month for 60 months. After that, you will have a complete software system that’s yours to use in perpetuity.

And if you want changes or to add more features, you can hire your own developer or have ours help you at cost.
